Lake Macquarie

The largest permanent coastal saltwater lake in the southern hemisphere, Lake Macquarie features about 30 kilometres of pristine coastline and some of the most beautiful forests in New South Wales.
Newcastle’s primary fishing harbour, Lake Macquarie offers productive nighttime fishing conditions, as well as during the day when the weather conditions are right.
Take advantage of optimal fishing times by casting your bait into Lake Macquarie when there is a good incoming tide.
Try to anchor your boat a few meters away from the drop-over, cast your bait into the deep water and let it float.
The depth of the water here can range from 25 ccentimetresto one meter deep across the sandbar. While fishing Lake Macquarie you’re likely to hook fish species such as Australian salmon, kingfish, luderick, whiting, bream, leather jacket and mulloway.
Kooragang Island

Kooragang Island is the largest suburb of the city of Newcastle, located on the Hunter River of New South Wales.

Located on Bathers Way coastal walk in New South Wales, Nobby’s Beach offers supreme fishing conditions during high tides and when waves are high.
Locate a deep gutter and cast your line or beach rod to catch monster kingfish, salmon or maybe even a mulloway.
Horseshoe Beach

The best time to fish for flathead and bream at Newcastle’s Horseshoe Beach is early in the morning when there is less wind.
Nighttime is also a good time to catch flatheads, so plan for some fishing in the dark using bait like beach worms or lollies.
