Carrington

Word of warning: Get in here quick to avoid missing out!

Carrington is a little suburb just a 4 k’s from Newcastle’s city centre. Situated on the water, Carrington is a great place to live if you’re looking for a place to live that offers city living, without the traffic!

Carrington sits between Throsby creek, and the Hunter River, making it a perfect place to live if you’re looking for waterside walks and activities. You can often see people kayaking, dragon boating and paddling on their stand up paddle boards.

So why is Carrington so great?

What’s great about Carrington is that it feels like a little country town, with a side of urban hipster. Actually, scratch that.

Carrington feels like that perfect weekend we all wish would never end.

What is there to do in Carrington?

The suburb has some beautiful little coffee shops (Ground Up Espresso and Café Inu being two popular options) that make the perfect start to the day. From there you can walk along the water, or try your best at paddle boarding. After a picnic on the water you can head off to Carrington place for some fine pub food. If you’re feeling a bit spicy, head off to {antojitos} for some delicious Mexican food and drinks. So ends day one of the perfect weekend.

Entering into day two, you can start the day by walking along the water (as if you could get sick of it!) With the fish co-op being so close by in Wickham, you can pick up some fresh prawns for the evening. Come the afternoon and it is time to head to the Carrington Bowling Club for some barefoot bowls and beers. Is there any better way to finish off the weekend?

Now to the nitty gritty

Keeping in mind that Carrington is just on the fringe of the city, houses are priced to match! A seriously good investment though, considering the city will only grow in years to come. The average age in this suburb is 20-39, indicating the kind of vibe Carrington is giving off to the rest of Newcastle. Half of the properties in this suburb are rented though, so keep that in mind while buying.

If you’re looking to break into the property market while Newcastle is still growing, this is the suburb to be buying in. Whilst it’s on the fringe of an industrial area it is only going to grow and improve with time. Buying in Carrington would also be a good idea if you’re looking to purchase an investment property. The growth of jobs in the city will only lead to a higher demand for properties in the local area, so buying in Carrington would be a great investment.
